REPOSE

a simpler yet innovative take on the classic Adirondack Chair

This is Rachel…

…as a mother of two, her day always ends in exhaustion, and there is nothing she wants more than a simple outdoor chair to de-stress in. She is looking for something that:

Promotes relaxation and wipes away the mental load carried throughout the day

Relaxes the back with an ergonomic shape, and relieves joint pains and stressed built up over time

Allows you to peacefully reconnect with nature and relax on even the most unstable surfaces

SKETCHING

The chair is ideally sketched with the following properties: It can be made with simple joinery, it allows for a relaxing position to sit in, and it sits deep, low, and steady on most outdoor surfaces.

MODELING

Three models are made, but only one is selected. However, some properties of other chairs are added to this main form in order to add structure and better design.

The first full-scale model is created out of 2x4’s with measurements taken from the Fusion360 file. These boards are all jointed and planed, then cut into thirds on a band saw to allow for easier joinery construction, including a 3-way Bridle joint and many lap joints.

FULL SCALE MODEL

SECONDARY MODEL

A new and improved model is made on Fusion360, considering the major flaws in the last one, including a backrest that was too high, a seat set too low deep and wide. The final model is assembled using each part, gluing the joinery in place and letting to dry and cure overnight.
